I'm probably the biggest Utada fan that I know personally. Honestly, my interests in music are way too different from the people around me and the only person close to me who also likes Utada is my younger sister. And the reason why she likes her too is because of me. I started it all. XD

Anyway, I just love Utada. I simply adore her. I admire her as a person, as a musician, as a song writer, as a composer, as a music arranger. Everything! I want to emulate her. She's like this very nice person who writes profound lyrics and whose music really captivates me even now. I never get tired of her songs. I listen to her old songs every so often and it makes me feel calm. Makes me feel in tune with who I am and somehow it transports me to a place where I can breathe freely and have peaceful thoughts.
But enough of that. I just watched Utada's newest music video after 'Come Back To Me' and I found it very amusing. The title of the song is Goodbye Happiness. Utada or Hikki is very kawaii in the video and I love the whole feeling the video gives me. It seems so fun and so laid back and so comfortable. Hikki makes silly dances and they were soo cute. ='.'=

Now regarding to the lyrics, I always search for her songs' English translations coz they never fail me as beautifully written compositions. Her lyrics are so deep and full of meaning and I really really like how  she writes her songs. And this is no exception.

I am probably guessing that it's still about her husband. I don't know. But I just felt like she was referring to him. To her unending love to her husband despite the divorce (which is really really sad). It's quite ironic to know that those who offer unending, unconditional love does not end up with the one they truly love even if the love they offer is something that cannot be found easily.

Well, it's not actually a really really sad song. In fact, it has a very happy tune. And the ending of the song is very positive. That even if she did not end up with the one she loves, she believes it will be good for her to keep living how she is now. One probable reason that her songs including this means a lot to me is because I can feel the same and apply it to my current situation right now. To what I'm feeling. It just hits every note of the page.
After the sweet candy has disappeared
A sad looking little boy
On a cloudless summer day

Sunburnt hands and feet
Careless if her white one piece gets dirty
An unconscious paradise

I waited after the dream, but nothing
Then one day, I learned of your name

So goodbye loneliness
Singing along to a love song
Reflected in your eyes, I’m laughing

So goodbye happiness
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
But that’s okay
Love me

You can’t overthink it or get too desperate
Don’t fool yourself
It’s a tough world

When humans find themselves all alone
Is when they realize the meaning of love

These fading passing days
Let me hear a gentle song
Do you still remember, to this day
The way we felt around the time we met

So goodbye innocence
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
It’s all your fault
Kiss me

Oh everything goes round and around
Oh darling darling I’m not going to move on to someone else
ONLY YOU

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just live the way we are?
At crucial moments, my other self blocks my way.

So goodbye happiness
I want to return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
Baby, just one more time
Kiss me
